Maximal Treadmill Versus Cycle Ergometry Testing in Children: Differences, Reliability, and Variability of Responses
نویسنده
چکیده
This study was designed to determine the differing cardiorespiratory responses between maximal treadmill ('I'M) and cycle (CY) ergometry, and the reliability and variability of these responses in 46 children 7 to 9 years old (23 boys and 23 girls). Two maximal TM and two maximal CY tests were administered, as well as a body composition assessment. The TM resulted !n a 9.4%, 11.1%, and 10.2% higher maximal oxygen consumption values (V02, ml.kg-'.min-I) than the CY in boys, girls, and the total population, respectjvely. Both the TM and the CY proved to be reliable measures of maximal V02 (ml.kg-'.mid) in both boys and girls, with intraclass correlations ranging from R = .63 to .90. Variability was significantly less (p 5 .05) on the CY (V02 in L-mid) than the TM, 4.4% versus 6.2%, respectively.

Comparison of VO2 Peak during Treadmill and Cycle Ergometry in Severely Overweight Youth.
The purpose of this study was to compare peak cardiorespiratory parameters during treadmill and cycle ergometry in severely overweight youth. Twenty-one participants from the Committed to Kids Pediatric Weight Management program at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center volunteered. Participants completed peak treadmill and cycle ergometer tests on separate days. In order to exam...
متن کاملPhysiological responses to linear treadmill and cycle ergometer exercise in COPD.
Incremental cardiopulmonary exercise testing work rate ideally increases linearly to the subject's tolerance within approximately 10 min. Widely used treadmill protocols often yield shorter exercise times in debilitated patients. We compared a recently described treadmill protocol featuring linear work rate increase, weight adjustments and a priori exercise tolerance estimates with standard cyc...
متن کاملReliability and day-to-day variability of peak fat oxidation during treadmill ergometry
BACKGROUND Exercising at intensities where fat oxidation rates are high has been shown to induce metabolic benefits in recreational and health-oriented sportsmen. The exercise intensity (Fatpeak) eliciting peak fat oxidation rates is therefore of particular interest when aiming to prescribe exercise for the purpose of fat oxidation and related metabolic effects. Although running and walking are...
متن کاملCardiorespiratory responses to standing arm ergometry in patients with ischemic heart disease. Comparison with the results of treadmill exercise.
To compare cardiorespiratory responses to standing arm ergometry and treadmill exercise, two graded exercise stress tests were performed in 30 patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). Cardiac catheterization and expired gas analyses were also done. Standing arm ergometry was discontinued because of arm fatigue in 15 (50%) patients, whereas treadmill exercise was stopped due to leg fatigue in...
متن کاملMaximal shuttle running over 40 m as a measure of anaerobic performance.
Over the last decade increasing interest has been shown in the measurement of anaerobic power and capacity in athletic men. These physiological characteristics have been determined predominantly using cycle ergometry and treadmill sprinting. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between 40-m maximal shuttle run times and performance indices obtained during treadmill s...
